Gortaree - The history of a townland and a family

The name Gortaree means The Heather Field or Garden. The garden part of the townland touches the lough which is 600 feet above sea level and must be the lowest spot in our Marlbank plateau or the water would not be there. It rises or slopes northwards towards Cuilcagh which is possibly 900 feet above sea level.
